New lakeRECORD for Jeroen Luppe at De Koperen Plas (60lb4oz)!

It is generally known that De Koperen Plas is a carp venue with a awesome stock of big carp. But I could never have dreamed that I could pose for the camera during my short winter session with this magnificent big beauty!
At the end of 2019 I purchased a winter pass for De Koperen Plas for the first time. The water is certainly not unknown to me, because I have had several beautiful carp sessions in the past. Since I live in the area, it is also a home game for me.
“Let’s get this party started!”
The evening before my short over nighter I started preparing. Rigs and chods were knotted and my car was carefully loaded “Let’s get this party started!” I get in the car in the morning to start the new fishing season at De Koperen Plas for 2 nights. Once I have arrived, I will of course visit to the pavilion, where the guys are already waiting for me. After a delicious cup of coffee I leave to my swim with a bucket of pellets from De Koperen Plas in the passenger seat. Swim 2 is the place from where I have to catch the carp for the next 48 hours.

"The chods have to do it."
Once arrived at the peg I make sure that I position the rods on the right spots as quickly as possible. Therefore I use a bait boat with a depth sounder. With low water temperatures of 7 degrees, it will not be an easy fishing session, but despite these circumstances, I am confident. My chods are armed with yellow hook baits. Given the previous sessions at De Koperen Plas, this is the best color. "The chods have to do it.”

"How is this possible!?"
Soon my tactics seem to work, because I’ve got the first bite within 2 hours. What follows is a hefty play with the fish that certainly feels like a serious one. The carp stays deep and does not give in easily. I see the fish turn and .. "Wow that looks good!" The fish gives a big bang, but then I stand there alone with a straight rod tip .. I look at the cause and to my great surprise I see that the swivel is broken .. “How is this possible!?" Swearing silently I go into the tent to get everything back in order. The first carp of the year has been lost. Damn!!

"This makes up for yesterday's trouble!"
The night goes smoothly and I slept wonderfully in my heated tent, which was equipped with an electric heater. Perfect to have electricity on the swim at De Koperen Plas! The next morning I still lie comfortably in my sleeping bag when I get a careful bite. After a solid fight I land a perfect mirror that indicates 41 pounds on the scale. "This makes up for yesterday’s trouble!" After this wonderful saving grace, I will of course immediately put back my chod rod baited with a dumbell from The Baits!

"Hell YEAH!"
Halfway through the afternoon, while I'm talking to a mate, the chod rod runs again. The fight that follows is very intense. The fish stays deep and gives bulky punches. She does not give in. As soon as the fish becomes visible, we can see that this is really a serious fish! The euphoria is enormous when we see this giant gliding elegantly over the net cord. It was necessary to transport this fish with 2 people to the unhooking mat. As soon as we hung the fish on the tripod, the needle of the Reuben Heaton stopped at 60lb and 4 Oz. My PB has been broken and the new lake record of De Koperen Plas is a fact! "HELL YEAH!"

At the end of my session, I manage to catch a stunning mirror of no less than 30lb. A wonderful ending to a session to remember. After bad luck at the start to loose a good fish, everything went well, with three beautiful carp including a big PB and a new lake record for De Koperen Plas. Disappointment and euphoria are close together in carp fishing!
Greetings,
Jeroen Luppe
